Regenerative Agriculture…Buzzword or Best Practice?!

Updated: Dec 23, 2022

With corporations continuously hopping on marketing trends, how do you know if you're truly paying for quality or being deceived by the greenwashing of Big Food and Big Ag?

Buzzwords are B.S. !

There are so many marketing scams happening in the food industry right now, it’s hard to keep up. Free range, natural, sugar-free, gluten-free, keto, low-carb, grass-fed… I mean, SERIOUSLY. These all have become, at best, labels that require further inspection, and at worst, addictive chemicals that wreak havoc on your body at the cellular level.

But something that’s truly beneficial is becoming widely known and accepted and this movement benefits individuals, communities, and the planet as a whole. This is some good stuff and it’s happening right here in our own backyard. It’s called Regenerative Agriculture.

Unlike the prevalent CAFO model of raising livestock, these regenerative ranching principles honor animal welfare, while benefiting consumers, ranchers, and the environment both locally and globally.

Meet: Terra Purezza. They are a regenerative agriculture farm located in the Texas Hill Country proving that it’s possible to build nutritionally-dense and scalable food systems that exist in balance with native ecologies.

Terra Purezza has amazing partnerships with Whole Foods and Willie Nelson's Luck Ranch to utilize food waste and native grasslands to raise premium pastured pork while restoring the quality and biodiversity of the Texas terrain.

Another Hill Country highlight is the rapidly growing company Force of Nature who is proving that ethically raised meats can be done in a way that can scale beyond your local farmers market and reach consumers in grocery stores nationwide. According to their website:

“The term ‘regenerative’ means that the agriculture systems in which this food was raised honor the systems within Mother Nature. We care for the soil, respect diversity in plants and animals on the land, and focus on natural outcomes versus synthetic inputs. That means no tilling, no synthetic chemicals, no hormones or antibiotics, and beautiful, wide-open spaces. The result is what you expect.”

Our current food system is not doing us any favors. While the sticker price in the grocery store may be tempting us to buy conventional meats, what you're not seeing is the additional cost of animal and environmental welfare.

It is unjust to standby and allow Big Food to implement systems that deny our families access to real, unadulterated food and the opportunity to properly thrive and prosper. It is our obligation as consumers and citizens to demand better from our food suppliers and system as a whole.
